The Samurai2 was designed by Bastin Labs with fabrication and restoration services provided by CAM Auto Creations. Bastin Labs is located in Phoenix, Arizona and focuses on actively developing and improving software controlled electric vehicles.

The 1987 Suzuki Samurai host vehicle was the founder’s first car so it was deemed the perfect prototype candidate given the familiarity and sentimental value. ¬†Purchased used in Tucson, Arizona in 1990, the Suzuki was transported to Montana for 8 years of abuse on the backcountry roads. ¬†In 1998, it was transported back to Arizona where it was placed in storage until the electric vehicle technology was finally available to make the electric conversion project a reality.
